The Digital Committee consists of thought leaders who represent a diverse digital and communications industry covering Advertising, Marketing, Media, Technology, Search, Creative, Data, Mobile, Social, Education, Cyber Safety, Digital Legal issues. The group is based in Sydney and meets regularly to establish an agenda of activities and projects for the benefit of the marketing communications industry.

Objectives:
- To act as an industry voice on all digital communication issues
- To promote and showcase digital innovation & best practice
- To provide relevant education for staff working in the digital space
- To act on behalf of members within the industry
- To provide networking opportunities for digital agency members
- To champion better integration of digital into mainstream marketing communications.

Digital Legal Guide for Agencies

In response to increasing complexities in the area of digital legal compliance, The Communications Council has launched a legal guide for agencies working within digital media.

Prepared by industry legal practitioner, Stephen von Muenster, Principal of VON MUENSTER Solicitors & Attorneys, the guide aims to raise awareness of potential hazards and assist agencies by providing appropriate advice on legal compliance.

A complimentary copy has been delivered to each member agency nationally. To find out who has received a copy at your agency, contact Genevieve - genevieve@communicationscouncil.org.au Additional copies can be purchased at a reduced price for members of $85.

Non members, clients and other industry associations are welcome to purchase a copy for $240.

e-Marketing Code of Practice

The Communications Council, along with the Australian Direct Marketing Association and the Public Relations Institute of Australia, have been given special powers as registered bodies under the Code to hear complaints against members. Agencies which don't sign up or nominate a registered body, and subsequently receive complaints, will have complaints heard by the Australian Media and Communications Authority.

Understanding Agency Obligations

It is important that agencies understand their obligations under the Code and Act and put in place mechanisms to ensure their clients are also compliant. Failure to comply with these warnings could lead to court action and pecuniary penalties.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau, in collaboration with the digital committees of The Communications Council and the Media Federation of Australia have developed guidelines for online ad format standardisation, bringing consistency, conformity and comparability across sites.
