WA Youngbloods Annual Winter Party!

On Friday 6th August 118 Caped crusaders, masked villains and heroic vigilantes gathered for the Annual Winter Party, this year’s theme was Super heroes and super villains.

We took over the top floor of the decadent and exclusive Manor nightclub in Leederville. After a few drinks many people spilled down the staircase and onto the dance floor where our dj stood behind an enormous white grand piano. Buzz Lightyear, Duffman and The Bride from Kill Bill stood out from a sea of Clark Kent’s and Wolverines but narrowly missed out on best dressed. The puppet from the Saw horror franchise and a geisha inspired hero beat them to take home the iTunes vouchers.

Tickets for the 2011 Oasis Ball were raffled off and the prize was won, purely by coincidence, by the former head of the Youngblood’s committee, Elliot Woolf.

Trivia Night

Over 80 Youngbloods braved the chilly night and gathered at the Tattersall's Bowling Club on Friday, 14th May  for a Trivia Quiz. The Brand Agency's team, very tastefully named 'The Blue Penis', demonstrated a mastery of useless information to win the night

Trivia, as an event, hadn't been done for some time with Youngbloods so it was a great opportunity to offer something fresh and a little more relaxed than the usual dress-up nights.

Without considering upcoming ALF games in Perth, 80 was a fantastic turn-out given we had clashed with a Dockers/Pies game in Subiaco.

The Youngbloods WA Committee are really looking forward to the next few events coming up in July/August which include a ‘Battle of the Bands’ evening and the always popular, ‘Winter Party’.

Summer Party

If you've been getting into the Christmas spirit, you'd already know that Youngblood's have just celebrated yet another successful Christmas party. bamBOO in Highgate was this years venue and 'Funk' was their theme.

With guests have already been to various Christmas parties throughout the day, the atmosphere was alive from the beginning. Guests were greeted by way of tasty treats from 'Brush Fork and Pencil' and also funky tunes by Randa and the Soul Kingdom.

Randa played two sets and were then followed by Youngbloods President Elliott Woolf as resident DJ for the remainder of the evening.

Best dressed was a hands down winner with Matthew Miles (Marketforce) taking the prize.

President Elliott Woolf stepped down from his role in Youngbloods and handed over the Jaclyn Griffiths (Gatecrasher). The crowd applauded him for his efforts in this role over the past year.

As the part wrapped up at bamBOO, guests were offered free entry into Luxe Bar to carry on the celebrations.

Winter Party

Friday 28th August saw The Library in Northbridge packed out by class heros and class zeroes of the Youngbloods variety for their second annual Winter Party. On the back of two huge winter events already this year, the night lived up to expectation as the committee pulled off yet another massive event with blazers, ties, pom poms, nerd glasses and tartan skirts as far as the eye could see.

The committee, headed by President Elliott Woolf, wanted to make sure it was another night to remember, "We were wrapped that everyone really got into the theme and the spirit of the night, it really said a lot about our close community" said Woolf. Everyone arrived ready to kick it old school and put a big effort into their costumes, packing out the dance floor from start to finish. A big thank you goes to The Library for housing the night and ensuring the responsibility and safety of all the attendees.

Finally, the Youngbloods team would like to thank the following sponsors, without whom none of this year's events would be possible: Val Morgan, ECU School of Communication and Arts, 92.9, Pilpel Print and Quality Press.

Movie Night

Around 270 Youngbloods flocked to the opening night screening of Bruno in Perth on the 9th August.
Val Morgan kindly arranged an entire cinema for the event with a complimentary popcorn and drink included in the price of the $10 ticket. At one point or another the audience could be seen rolling in the isles with laughter or shielding their eyes, however at the end of the film, the overwhelming round of applause was enough to confirm that the night had been a success.

"Blue Steel Party"

The 20th February saw the first event on the WA Youngbloods calendar. Themed 'Blue Steel' from the film Zoolander, Eurobar in Northbridge hosted a capacity crowd of around 250 in a night of Blue Curacao cocktails and walk-offs.

This was a momentous event for WA Yougbloods as it was the first in the organisation's history, where we had been approached by the venue to host an event. Eurobar offered food, drinks and entertainment for guests, as long as Youngbloods could promise numbers. And as usual WA Youngbloods delivered.

In the vain of the theme, the Youngbloods committee hosted a 'walk-off' fashion parade, where guests dressed as Zoolander characters, strutted their stuff on the catwalk to win prizes donated by a local radion station.

On the whole, a 'really, really, really, ridiculoulsy' good night was had by all.
